The fourth IAAF Diamond League season started in Doha with 11 world leading performances and 7 meeting records. The world leading marks were set by David Rudisha (800m), Sandra Perkovic (discus), Ryan Whiting (shot put), Konstantions Filippidis and Malte Mohr (pole vault), Abeba Aregawi (1500 m), Dawn Harper-Nelson (100 m hurdles), Lydia Chepkurui (3000 m steeple), Amantle Montsho (400m), Asbel Kiprop (1500m) and Hagos Gebrhiwet (3000 m).
USA's Ryan Whiting dominated the shot put competition. In his best attempt he sent the implement to 22.28m mark. It is his personal best, the world leading mark and the meeting record. "I can throw these metres again in Moscow but it will not be easy against athletes like David Storl, Majewski or Hoffa", Whiting said. Hoffa and Majewski competed in Doha as well. Hoffa placed 3rd with 21.01. Twice Olympic champion Majewski in his forst outing after an elbow surgery placed 4th with 19.96. The second place was taken by Argentina's German Lauro who set the South American record - 21.26.
